When you are working on a construction site, you are bound to come across the issue of excess water during excavation. The term dewatering refers to the process of removing either groundwater or surface water. You will need to use dewatering pipes to remove the groundwater so that you can continue working smoothly. Also, groundwater, if not removed, can cause damage to your construction project. There are different processes of dewatering. You can take a look at the following methods and see which one works for you.

  • Wellpoint system

One of the most common dewatering techniques is the wellpoint technique. In this system, you need to drill multiple wells all around your construction area. You have to install dewatering pipes that are perforated. You will have to connect these pipes with overhead pumps that will help in drawing groundwater into the well-points that you have drilled. Later, you can suck out the groundwater with the help of a pump and can discharge the water away from your construction site.

  • Deep well system

If your construction site is deeper than 16-meter, a wellpoint system will not work for you. In this case, you will need to drill much bigger and deeper wells. The diameter of the wells can be between 15 cm and 60 cm depending on the depth of your construction site. You will need to install submersible pumps that have dewatering pipes connected to them to each of the wells. You can draw out large volumes of water from the excavation site as the wells are much bigger.

  • Flood controlling

Many a time, you might come across an unforeseen situation of heavy rainfall where there is a large volume of water that you need to remove instantly. While you can drill wells to remove underground water, flood controlling methods are important for the removal of storm water or rain water. It is important for you to have additional pumping systems along with dewatering pipes so that in case of emergency, you can remove flood water promptly.

Choose the appropriate equipment

As construction site managers or engineers, you need to invest in good quality dewatering equipment. It is evident that you will come across challenging situations from time to time. If the equipment is not made for tough challenges, this may end up causing more harm than good. Hence, you should always consider getting your products from a reputable company such as Bigfoot Pipes.
